Kyoto Sanpo in yukata. Take a break with the famous shaved ice.

Kyoto Sanpo in yukata. Take a break with the famous shaved ice.

The summer heat of Kyoto is one of the specialties.
If you are walking under hot weather, frequent breaks are important. If you have a break at a café or coffee shop, how about shaved ice that can cool off at once?

Sweet summer ice of “Gion Komori” at the Gion townhouse

“Gion Komori” is a sweets shop located right next to the Sakai Daimyojin, which is particularly popular among tourists in Gion. The building that was once used as a tea house is used in its original form, and you can see the Shirakawa murmur outside the window.

I would definitely recommend the sweet summer shaved ice (1200 yen).
Moderate sweetness with a little acidity, nectar in the nectar, tastes like a squeezed fruit. The volume of appearance is large, but you can eat it in no time.
The parfait is also popular here. The matcha ice cream that is crumpled up on top and the layer filled with ingredients will make you want to take a picture. It’s also a good idea to share shaved ice and parfait with your friends one by one.

Gorgeous ice with a gorgeous topping at the Umezono Teramachi store in the city’s sweet place

The Umezono Teramachi store is right next to the Shinkyogoku lined with souvenir shops, making it easy to visit the city for sightseeing.Mitarashi dumplings and warabimochi have long been loved by locals. There are several stores in Umezono, but the classic appearance of the Teramachi store is the best.

The recommended shaved ice is “Uji Kintoki Shiratama + Matcha Warabimochi”.
Muan, Shiratama, Warabimochi are generously ridden on the ice.If you try to eat one, the next white ball will almost spill out, so be careful (laughs). There are only popular sweets, and white balls and warabimochi are delicious enough, but it is luxurious to be able to eat them as shaved ice toppings at once.

Shaved ice full of fruit in a small gallery “Ki to Ne” tearoom

The gallery “Ki and Ne” is located just south of Kyoto’s main street, Shijo-dori.This is a small shop where the artist’s bowls and miscellaneous goods are lined up.Here you can get 10 kinds of honey and shaved ice with toppings.Enchanted by the beauty of colorful honey.Kiwi and mango squeeze retains the texture of the pulp, making you feel as if you are eating the whole fruit.
It’s a photogenic item, but it’s a bit disappointing that photography is prohibited.Since the number of seats is limited and often full, let’s visit with plenty of time.

Ice born from “Mont Blanc”, a signature product from a popular pastry shop

Montblanc shaved ice is a popular confectionery shop near the Kitayama subway station, Marl Blanche.
A lot of marron cream wraps ice like a mountain! The impact is tremendous, but the rich taste is higher than expected. The meringue and cream are also hidden in the ice, so you can enjoy authentic cake and ice at once.
Ice ice is natural ice that has been ordered from a long-established store in Nikko, so it is easy to cool without being keen on your head. You can also enjoy changing the taste with sauces such as anglaise sauce and cassis sauce.

Kitayama is a suburb of Kyoto, but it is worth visiting! Since it may be sold out in the early hours, it is recommended to go to a time when it is not open.

Kanako Okumura

A writer living in Kansai. I like vintage fashion, and as an extension of it, enjoy kimono as everyday wear. I particularly like antique kimonos in the early Showa era where there are many bold colors. Because he was an editor / writer for Kyoto guidebooks and information magazines, he is also familiar with Kyoto\\\'s culture and gourmet.
