Walking in Asakusa with a yukata (1)
Asakusa is the city of Tokyo where you want to walk in yukata and kimono.
Many people think of Asakusa from Kaminarimon through Nakamise and chatting to Sensoji Temple. However, Asakusa is not only that, there are various streets and shopping streets, and there are many unique places.
Today I will introduce Denpoin-dori as a perfect place to take a walk in Yukata from such Asakusa.
What is Denpoin Street?
Denpoin Street is located between Sensoji Temple and Shin Nakamise Street, and intersects with Nakamise Street.Denpoin is the head temple of Sensoji Temple, which has a garden in the early Edo period and is open to the public on an irregular basis.Because this street is adjacent to the Denpoin, this street was named Denpoin Street. On the Denpoin-dori street, about 200 meters away, there are “Wa” specialty shops unique to Asakusa, perfect for strolling in yukata!
While rickshaws and bicycles can pass, there is no car, and the road is wide and easy to walk.

On Denpoin-dori, where many Japanese-style shops are lined up, wearing a yukata and walking through each store makes you feel like you’ve slipped back in time in the Edo period.
Edo-Kiriko’s shop, Tsugekushi specialty store, and so on, there are other specialty shops that are a bit throbbing, such as “Is it safe to enter suddenly…” Let’s take a peek at it.
Noren’s specialty store Bengara is a shop that dyes original goodwill from a single point. The goodwill at the entrance draws the name of Tokyo, such as Nihonbashi and Komagata…

Speaking of people who want to meet at Denpoin Street
And this is the one I want you to meet at Denpoin Street.
Nippon Doemon, the head of a bandit group called Shiranami Gohan, who appears in one of Kabuki’s famous works, Aotozo Hana no Nishiki. Each of the five unique men is said to be the source of modern squadron heroes, and has been a popular Kabuki performer since the Edo period.
On Den Den-in Street, including the Japanese Doemon, the five men of Shiranami are hiding all over the roof of the shop.Because Kabuki Kyogen author Amami Kawakita, the father of Shiranami’s five men, lived in this area, the five Shiranami men were on Denpoin-dori.
Please look for it while walking!
Check your face at night
Asakusa’s night is early, and after 19:00, many shops close their shutters and the traffic is much less.
Asakusa Temple is lit up, and in the dark night Sensoji Temple and the five-storied pagoda clearly emerge.Asakusa is cool and easy to walk at night, so it’s highly recommended because it changes the atmosphere from the busyness of the daytime.
Denpoin-dori shops usually close their shutters at night, but the shutters have pictures associated with them.Just watching this shutter picture is fun. What’s more, on this shutter is an Edo celebrity that is said to be the “Eight Edo people of the night”!
Naobei Chobei, Okubohiko Saemon, Hijikata Toshizo, Shinmon Shingoro, Mito Mitsunori, Benten Pis, Izumo no Kuni, Sakamoto Ryoma…
