What is Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine …
Tsurukaoka Hachimangu Shrine originated in 6103 (1063), when Yoriyoshi Genji worshiped Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine in Kyoto on Yuigahama as the guardian deity of Genji.
Later, when Gen Yorino entered Kamakura to revive Genji, he moved Hachimangu Shrine in Yuigahama to his current location.
It is said that many people have revered and became the basis of the spirit of samurai. It gradually became known throughout the country as a shrine for national protection.
The present main shrine was built in 1828 by Tokugawa Iiei, the 11th general of the Edo Shogunate. Gohonden and Wakamiya are designated as important cultural properties, and the deep green of the shrine and the vermilion of the shrine are impressive.
Cherry blossoms, lotus and peony are planted in the precincts, so you can enjoy the seasonal nature.
Shirakaba Shrine, where Motoyori and Jincho are enshrined, is also in the shrine
It is a historical shrine that many Japanese people want to visit once. It will be a good memory to take a stroll through a historical shrine in kimono.
